So, Mr. Cohelo here I am trusting you one more time....

Well Alchemist is a very simple story, simply told...no flashy words so is an easy read.

It is a story of a boy in the pursuit of his destiny, now he dares to follow his dreams and what he learns on the journey towards the hidden treasure his destiny has in store for him.

The shepherd boy is happy with his flock of sheep until a day he sees treasure in his dreams. The dream is reoccurent which disturbs the boy a bit. The boy decides to visit a gypsy women to get the dream interpreted. The woman tells him to go to Egypt and that is the place where his treasure lies.He doubts the woman and decides not to believe her.

The moment he thought of forgetting all about the dream, the shepherd met the king of Salem. The king of Salem helped people realize their dreams by helping them and pushing them just when they are thinking of giving it all up.The King assured him that his dream was his destiny and he ought to follow it.He told that the omens would guide him to reach his treasure. The shepherd new nothing about Egypt except that the place had Pyramids which were famous. He knew that traveling to Egypt would require a lot of money and was confident that a trade of his sheep would yield him enough money. And hence his quest for treasure begun. The shepherd traded his sheep for money and decided to set off for his journey to Egypt. But as destiny would have it,all his money was stolen and to his dismay the boy finds himself in a foreign land with no money,no sheep,no food.

The shepherd realizes there is still something that he has not lost. His will to work. The boy decides to work somewhere to earn enough money to buy his sheep. He began his work as a cleaner in a crystal shop and later worked hard to improve the sales in the shop to earn handsome profits.Meanwhile he learned the local language and enjoyed his work.He learned that although the place was different from where he came from yet there is a universal language that governs everyone. After about an year he earned enough money to travel to Egypt and hence he set forth.

The journey to Egypt was in a caravan. The caravan had to cross the desert on camels. The desert was a deadly place to go as there was danger of plunderers and desert wars.He had an Englishman for company who wanted to be an Alchemist, someone who could turn lead to gold.
The silent desert teaches him the universal language he had once heard of.He became friends with the desert and began to read the omens set for him. The Englishman was in quest for an Alchemist who lived in an oasis in the derest to learn the art from him. The war broke out in the desert and they took refuge in the oasis.

The oasis was a neutral ground and no war could be fought there. Thus was considered safe. The shepherd and the Englishman began their search for the alchemist. One day on the oasis the shepherd met an oasis girl and fell in love with her. The shepherd already had gained reputation in the oasis for his ability to read omens and thus was content and happy with his life there. The alchemist wanted to teach to only an able follower and thus he tested them and chose the shepherd capable of learning the art and so he decided to guide the shepherd to his destiny ie the treasure that lay hidden in Egypt.

The journey from the oasis to Egypt was adventurous for the two. They met plunderers on their way ad the understanding of the universal language became clearer to the shepherd. He could now talk to the sand and could be the wind himself. He became certain of achieving his target ie the treasure.

On reaching Egypt the shepherd was deserted by the Alchemist and was told to follow his destiny alone.

Will the shepherd get his treasure or all these sufferings would be in vain?
Well...read the book and you will know ;)
